This lovely little Pied-billed grebe (Podilymbus podiceps) was nice enough to swim through this beautiful section of a lake where I was photographing near Phoenix. While many people think grebes are ducks, actually they aren’t. Remember the test for a duck is simple – webbed feet. Grebes have toes. They are actually more closely related to (believe it or not) flamingos.
